Hadjidakis in Film – Home

To mark the centenary of the birth of Manos Hadjidakis, Megaron the Athens Concert Hall, in collaboration with the Friends of Music Society and the Greek Film Archive, presents a film tribute highlighting his creative relationship with the seventh art. The composer who shaped Greek and international culture with his music also left an indelible mark on cinema, offering melodies that transcended the screen.

The screening marathon includes four landmark films: Topkapi, America America, Never on Sunday — the film that won him the Academy Award for Best Original Song — and The Megalos Erotikos, a milestone work that brings his deeply personal vision to the cinema. Through these films, Hadjidakis reveals himself not only as a composer but also as a storyteller, enriching rhythm, atmosphere and emotion through music. As he himself said: “Good music for the cinema always brings the image within us…” — emphasising the role of film music not merely as a subtle backdrop but as an active, functional element.

The tribute is completed with the discussion Like Old Cinema…, in which Maria Komninou welcomes Nikos Kypourgos, Renata Dalianoudi and Fotis Apergis. An opportunity to revisit Hadjidakis in cinema and to shed light on his legacy through dialogue.
