More than three decades after their explosive rise to global fame, the Gipsy Kings remain true cultural icons. With over 14 million albums sold, a Grammy Award for Best World Music Album (2013), and their iconic compilation The Best of the Gipsy Kings staying on the charts for 52 consecutive weeks, the band has elevated traditional gitano music into a worldwide phenomenon.
Their legacy runs deep. The roots of their sound can be traced back to the 1960s, when Nicolas Reyes’s father, José Reyes, formed a legendary flamenco duo with Manitas de Plata—admired by figures like Miles Davis and Pablo Picasso. From the streets of Arles and Saint-Tropez to the world’s biggest stages, the Gipsy Kings transformed the family name Reyes (“Kings”) into a symbol of musical wanderlust.
Today, their influence is stronger than ever. Classics like “Bamboléo” and “Volare” boast hundreds of millions of streams, while more than 6 million monthly listeners on Spotify keep returning to their timeless blend of flamenco, rumba, and pop. Their songs have soundtracked iconic moments in modern culture—from Hotel California in The Big Lebowski to their Latin rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” in Toy Story 3.
