Excitement is building in Riga as thousands of Greek fans arrive to back their national team in the EuroBasket 2025 semifinal against Turkey. The game tips off tonight at 21:00 local time in the Arena Riga, with Greece looking to secure a place in the final.
After a spirited run led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, Greece has reached the semifinals and will not be alone in Latvia. According to estimates, around 2,000 Greek supporters will fill the stands, possibly outnumbering Turkish fans.
The Hellenic Basketball Federation requested 1,500 tickets from FIBA, which sold out early on Friday morning. Beyond those, many individual fans arranged their own travel and tickets from Greece and across Europe. At least five charter flights have already taken off from Athens and Thessaloniki, packed with supporters.
Videos shared online show lively groups of fans singing and waving flags on their way to Riga. The well-known supporters’ club, the “Pelicans,” has also mobilized, ensuring strong representation in the arena.

The atmosphere is further boosted by the presence of former Greek basketball legends. Members of the 2005 EuroBasket-winning squad, including Theo Papaloukas, Dimitris Diamantidis, and Kostas Tsartsaris, have arrived in Riga, alongside league officials and other high-profile figures.
With the stakes high and emotions running strong, tonight’s clash promises to be not only a basketball battle but also a showdown in the stands.
