Athens’ premier arts festival, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, may have wrapped up its 70th anniversary season, but the Herodeion isn’t done just yet. As the city slides into autumn and the nights turn cooler, Athenians and visitors still have the chance to enjoy unforgettable evenings at one of the most magical venues in the world: the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, tucked right beneath the Acropolis.
For decades, this historic Roman theater has been a stage for world-class artists and a favorite spot for audiences who come for the music, the drama, and of course, the breathtaking view of the Parthenon lit up in the background.
But here’s the bittersweet news: starting this fall, the Herodeion will close for at least three years for much-needed restoration. Until then, there’s still time to take your seat on the stone steps and soak in one last round of concerts under the Athenian night sky.
