One of Gateshead’s most famous venues will get a Greek makeover for a massive Mamma Mia themed brunch
If you can’t get enough of Mamma Mia and love a bit of Greek food, you should be in ABBA heaven later this year, when a huge brunch themed around the smash hit movie and musical comes to Gateshead. And with live performances from a cast of talented singers also on the menu, it looks set to be quite a day!
The world fell in love with Swedish pop icons ABBA the moment they won Eurovision in 1974, with their victory at the annual event lighting the touch paper on a glittering music career, which saw them give the world classics like Dancing Queen, Thank You for The Music, SOS and, of course, Mamma Mia. That hit single is also the title of the musical that opened in the West End in the late 90s and has now played to millions of people worldwide, with a return to Broadway on the cards for later this year.
A decade after its West End debut, Mamma Mia then reached a whole new audience when it was turned into a big screen movie. Starring the likes of Meryl Streep and Colin Firth, it became a box office smash worldwide, with a sequel, Here We Go Again, following a decade later to great excitement. Well, if you consider yourself a super trouper or dancing queen, you might want to clear your diary for Saturday, September 27, as that is when the Mamma Mia Brunch Experience is coming to The Fed, the famous party spot near the Metrocentre.
A flyer for what looks set to be a packed out event, invites people to journey to the fictional island of Kalokairi for ‘the ultimate Mamma Mia Greek Brunch Experience,’, which will include a welcome drink for everyone, as well as three course Greek meal, themed room decor and a performance from a 10 strong group of performers.
There are still some tickets left, with the standard option, priced £25, including a cocktail on arrival, the three course meal, shot of Ouzo and the entertainment. For a slightly more expensive £35 per person, you’ll get all of that plus three bottles of white and two bottles of prosecco for your table of 10.
Finally, the VIP Donna Diva Package, costing £45pp for a group of 10, has the welcome cocktail, three course meal and Ouzo shot, along with 5 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of prosecco to share and the added bonus of prime seats and your own table host.
