Alex Satariano has completed a move to Greek second division side Kallithea.
The Times of Malta on Saturday reported that the 23-year-old forward had reached an agreement with his club, Birkirkara, to part ways with the club and move to a Greek club.
Satariano is coming from a very strong season with Birkirkara during which the young midfielder helped the club to reach the Top Four final against Ħamrun Spartans and the FA Trophy final, where they lost against Hibernians 2-1.
His performances, however, have not gone unnoticed as he was voted as the Player of the Year by both the MFA and the Malta Football Players Association.
The Times of Malta spoke with his agent Luigi Fenech who gave a clear insight into Satariano’s move to Greece.
“This morning, Alex Satariano, and myself travelled to Greece to meet Thanos Tsialikis and together we headed to the club’s premises to finalise the move,” Fenech told the Times of Malta.
“Although Alex had a number of offers from Slovakia, Poland, and Slovenia, Kallithea’s project was the one that attracted most interest for him as he felt that the Greek club really wanted him.
“The club’s first-team coach wanted to sign Alex at all costs and the club’s honours had a number of direct calls with him to explain to him the club’s project and how he will be an important figure in the club’s plans for next season.
“After holding talks with me, Alex decided to join Kallithea and firmly believes that this is the right move for him and it will give him the opportunity to take the next step in his career.
“Alex would like to thank the Birkirkara fans for all their support and the club for all the faith they have shown in him and he will be forever grateful for everything they have done with him throughout all these years.”
The Athens-based club is looking to rebuild its squad after suffering the disappointment of being relegated from the country’s top-flight for the first time in 18 years last season.
This summer, Kallithea have been very busy in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad in their bid to return to the Greek top division.
Sources in Greece told the Times of Malta that Kallithea have a tough fight on their hands as they must battle against some strong opposition in Kalamata and Panionios, as only one team gets promoted.
Kallithea, funded through American investment, are led by former Venezia Calcio CEO Ted Philipakos and Peter Philipakos.
