The Real Greek boldly claims that its new menu doesn’t just “taste like Greece – it takes you there”.

So we went on a visit to the national chain’s Bristol restaurant in Cabot Circus, and it is really like stepping into a beachside taverna.

Upon entry, a huge mural of the country on the wall greets you on and gets you straight in the mood to start eating Greek-style.

After taking our seats in a lovely spot by the window, we had a look over the delicious new menu and were immediately drawn to the Filoxenia menu.

This four-dish tasting experience includes one salad/side, one cold meze, a souvlaki grill and flatbread – and is priced at just £24 per person.

But to begin, we just had to try some Greek nibbles, with the halloumi popcorn (£7.50) and olives (£3.50) really getting those tastebuds going for more Grecian delights.

For the Filoxenia menu, I ordered houmous for the cold meze, a flatbread, octopus for the souvlaki grill and halloumi fries for the side. While my dining partner ordered the taramasalata, flatbread, beef and chickpea salad for his four courses.

The food was absolutely incredible, with the fresh bread complementing the meze amazingly. The halloumi fries were moreish and as for the octopus, which I had for the first time ever, it had such a delightful flavour and a really unique texture.

For drinks, we had a carafe of sangria (£16) to share, which was a generous amount and so refreshing. I also just had to try one of the cocktails, with grilled lemon gin and tonic (£8.50) also being so refreshing.

After the filling mains, we tried the Greek filo custard pie (£5.95) and baked cheesecake (£5.95) for dessert, which were just as delicious as the mains. With a Freddo espresso martini (£8.50) to wash it down, it made the whole visit divine.

After eating the Real Greek’s new menu, I can certainly say that it offers a truly authentic food experience to Greece.

The Real Greek’s team spent over a year researching and obsessing over what makes Greek food so special – and the new menu is a reflection of that.

Also, everyday throughout July, one lucky table in each of The Real Greek’s 28 restaurants across the UK will receive a Golden Menu.

And if you’re fortunate enough to find one at your table, you’ll win the full Filoxenia menu for your entire party, completely free.
