TILSIZOGLOU, John – Kamloops Obituaries

TILSIZOGLOU, John

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Tilsizoglou, beloved husband of Maria, his wife of 52 years. In addition to his devoted wife, John will be sadly missed by his daughter Dora (David), and his grandson Milano, whom he cherished.

John was born on September 18,1940 to Jordan and Theodora and was the youngest of five children. John was born in Draviskos, Serres, in Northern Greece and was always proud to say he came from the same region as Alexander the Great. John immigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1971 and settled into his new life by working first as a line cook and eventually becoming head chef at numerous steak houses and hotel restaurants. John found joy in learning the art of cooking and cherished the moments he could cook for family and friends.

In 1972, John met the love of his life, Maria, at the restaurant where they both worked. They were married on May 20, 1973, and after being married for a year, his wife Maria started studying the Bible and got to know Jehovah, our Creator. John was moved by her deep faith and devotion which impelled him to start a study of the Bible. On May 21, 1983, he made the most important change in his life when he dedicated his life to Jehovah God by water baptism. From that point on, his focus was to instill the same love and loyalty for his God to his family and everyone he knew.

John loved to engage in conversation with everyone. He cherished family, friends, and good food. He loved to sing and dance to Greek music, especially when it included the bouzouki. He will be remembered for his calm, mild, and positive demeanor, devotion to his family and his faith in Jehovah.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful team at Village Smith Creek for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity shown to our beloved husband, father, and pappou over the last two years and would like to express their sincere gratitude for all the phone calls, messages, flowers, and food.
