It’s no secret that basketball legend Michael Jordan is a generous man. A 2019 report by the NBA lists over 18 philanthropic actions from Jordan, and in March, Newsweek reported that Jordan had opened his fourth Free Health Clinic in North Carolina.
However, it was a recent show of his generosity while in Vouliagmeni, a suburb of Athens, Greece, that left restaurant staff speechless, according to Greek Reporter.
Celebrating 40 years of the Jordan brand, the sports icon hosted a luxury retreat called the Board of Greatness and invited athletes like Jayson Tatum and Paolo Banchero, as well as artists, such as Miguel, according to Sneaker Bar Detroit.
During this retreat, Jordan and his guests dined at the Greek restaurant, Papaioannou, and were treated to an exclusive seafood menu including sea bass sashimi, grilled lobster, fresh catch of the day, and shrimp skewers, all prepared by the founder and executive chef, Giorgos Papaioannou, per Fadeaway World.
Having been so impressed by the meal and staff hospitality, Jordan left a tip of $11,500, according to Greek Reporter. Though the restaurant was shut to the public for the privacy of Michael Jordan and his guests, a witness in the restaurant claimed that Jordan toasted the servers, personally thanked the chef, and gave a speech to all in the restaurant, showing admiration for Greek culture and saying that it served as inspiration for his brand, according to Fadeaway World.
The tip might not have been a big deal for the sports mogul, who has been sailing around the Mediterranean Sea on his $115 million yacht, M’Brace, according to The Times of India. However, I’m sure many restaurants will be all too eager to host a dinner for Michael Jordan.
