On July 24th, Chios is scheduled to host a separate cultural event entitled “Music Festival”, co-organized by the North Aegean Region and the Group of European Companies of Classical Languages and Cultures (Euroclassica). The action, open to the public, unites the music, literature, and the scientific approach of classical education on a unique night dedicated to the timeless value of Homer and the Greek Secretariat.
The event will begin with a brief introductory speech, while the central part will include a concert with melodic poetry, from Homer to Elytis, and readings from world literature with reference to Homeric Word and Music. Anastasia Georgakis, Professor of Music Technology and President of the Department of Music Studies of the EKPA, who will also participate on stage with accordion, presented the artistic curator and the presentation.
The evening also includes the decoding and reconstruction of the “Homeric sounds”, focusing on the Sirens episode, bringing to the forefront the intersection of speech, myth, and sound. Along with her, Alkis Kollias (voice, piano), Telemachus Mousa (electric guitar, saw, electronics), Angeliki Kontopoulou (song), and Fiori Metallinou (voice) will be on the stage, while their participation promises a sound and narrative experience.
Euroclassica, with a steady presence at the European level, unites through actions like teachers, students, and audiences in a dialogue on the values of humanity, education, and a common cultural past. The “Music Festival” is part of a broader effort to promote classical education and Greek cultural identity through modern creation and intercultural exchange.
The event is aimed at both residents and visitors to Chios and aims to deepen the study of Homeric Ephesus, to highlight the timeless importance of the Greek language and literature, and to inspire the younger generation to see ancient Greek thought as a living point of reference. As noted by the organizers, this action is not only a tribute to Greek culture, but also a vibrant proof that the ancient values of dialogue and cooperation can still inspire.
