Acorn Music Theatre Company are bringing their eclectic and award-winning style of music theatre to a beautiful private garden in Shiplake on the 22, 23 and 24 July with its new show The Medusa… a wild haired girl.
The Medusa is an immersive, site-specific piece of theatre. The ensemble cast tell the story of a young mortal girl whose hair is turned into snakes by the vengeful goddess Athene, and includes a flying horse, fickle and petty Gods and hungry goats all combined with a clever script supported by original live music.
The show is a collaboration between the Company and Acorn alumni (Mighty Oaks) who bring their professional expertise to work with the youthful cast. Using recycled materials, designer and puppeteer Jana Lakatos has created an owl, a giant sea monster and a school of fish. The flying horse, and other unique props, have been magicked into life by long-term Acorn artists Caryn Moberly and Sarah Ronan.
Acorn is well known for its dynamic physical theatre, which has been choreographed with Evie Amos and Holly Rosier, and epic original music and songs composed by the cast working with BBC award winner Megan Henwood @meganhenwoodmusic together with Tash Keary and Joe Henwood @o.the.band. The script takes inspiration from The Medusa by Jessie Burton and Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes, and has been developed by the cast with Gail Rosier, with literary inspiration from Sarah Bell and Elizabeth Crowdy.
Acorn Music Theatre Company is a local charity whose purpose is to further the education of young people in the performing arts, circus, and music. It is run by a dedicated team of trustees and Artistic Director Gail Rosier. Email acorntickets@gmail.com for tickets and further information regarding The Medusa… a wild haired girl.
