Tornos News | Dance performance at the Floka Theater for the 100th anniversary of Hadjidakis and Theodorakis

An event of high symbolism and artistic value is part of the program of the International Festival of Ancient Olympia. The Municipality of Ancient Olympia is planning for July 16 at the Floka Theater a dance performance dedicated to the memory and work of two leading figures of Greek music: Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of their birth.

The direction, artistic direction, and choreography of the performance are signed by the internationally acclaimed Artemis Ignatiou, Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia, known to the general public for her long-standing contribution to the Olympic Flame Lighting ceremonies. The performance features the group CHOROTHEATRO ART, while the artistic material is based on characteristic works by the two composers, which have been linked to Greek identity, social memory, and artistic expression over time.

The purpose of the performance is not only to pay tribute to the two creators but also to highlight their profound influence on culture and collective consciousness. Through movement and interpretation, an attempt is made to convey the “double soul” of modern Greece, as reflected in their music: the inner lyricism of Hadjidakis, which speaks to memory and emotion, and the militant, socially charged music of Theodorakis, which accompanies the struggle and the claim.

The International Festival of Ancient Olympia is one of the most stable and recognizable cultural institutions in Western Greece. Every summer, it brings to the fore quality productions, concerts, theatrical and dance performances, maintaining a strong connection of the place with cultural creation.

The Floka Theater, built within a natural landscape of unique beauty, functions as an ideal space for performances that combine artistic excellence with historical and symbolic depth. Through actions such as this, the Municipality of Ancient Olympia continues to honor its cultural heritage and communicate it in the present, with respect, quality, and extroversion.
