Stretching back to the ancient Olympics, sports were an incredibly important part of ancient life & have had a lasting impact on the modern day. Just like us, the ancients loved to show off their athletic prowess, and competed in a variety of exciting games and events.
In this video we explore these competitions & step into the arenas of antiquity to learn more about everything from charioteering to the bloody reality of gladiatorial combat.
As in many other areas of antiquity, the Romans learnt from the Greeks but as the Greeks pioneered a range of sporting events, the Romans built on them to evolve the arenas, ‘maximise’ the the Hippodrome into the Circus and take sports further than they’d ever been before.

Didn’t they also have a form of football? Also, I know they were known for their wine, but didn’t they have ale and mead too?
