A new group art exhibition entitled “The Underwater Historical Site of Kea” opens on Saturday, June 28, 2025 (19:00-22:00) at the Georgia Martinou building in Vourkari, with the aim of highlighting the underwater cultural treasure of Kea and raising public awareness about the protection of the marine environment.
The exhibition, curated by art historian Louisa Karapidaki, presents works by 37 contemporary artists inspired by the important shipwrecks of Kea —including the HMHS Britannic, the S/S Burdigala, the Patris, and the German Junkers 52— which have now been declared underwater historical sites. The works are accompanied by audiovisual material, photographs, and evidence from divers and archaeologists.
The exhibition is organized by the active Friends of Kea Association, with the support of the Aegean AMKE, and will run until August 30, daily from 19:00-22:00.
Cultural events will be held within the framework of the exhibition, including film tributes to Mikis Theodorakis (July 18–19 & August 12–13), as well as musical evenings with Antonis Mitzelos (August 2) and Yannis Mono (August 9).
