This portokalopita recipe is an old-fashioned Greek dessert. The name actually means Greek orange pie (portokali means orange in Greek and pita means pie), but it’s really a dense cake instead.

This is ridiculously incorrect, from the beginning to the end! I'm wondering how could you spoil the entire recipe!
1) if you offer a greek dessert, make sure you can pronounce it and translate it. Portokalo (orange) pita (pie). There are spanako-pitas (spinach pie), tyro-pitas (cheese pie), tahino-pita tahini pie)and so on.
2) the filo should be dried in oven first, then cracked into very small pieces
3) you suggested far too much orange juice for the syrup. It needs about 1/3 of what you say. It could be also water + orange peels and sugar. Always good to mention alternatives.
4) you should never cut the pie/cake/ whatever when is hot. The way you cut it, made it look like porridge.
5) either the cake or the syrup should cooled down if the other warm
Greece has a huge variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, greens, every fruit, every vegetable
it can make a savory or sweet pie, so there are thousands of pie recipes
Love with abandon, live with purpose, and eat with passion! I love this philosophy. I'm stealing it. I hope you don't mind.
I made this last night after getting your email. It is decadent! So much like a bread pudding but way better with all the orange and yogurt to make it sweet tart! We served with a little whipped cream but more yogurt would be great too.
I have frozen phyllo dough in my freezer so perfect!
❤Ok, but so many sugar!😊
I from Brazil and always wanted to try the mediterranean diet but never found that kind of content in Portuguese. Luckly, on of these days the Greek Gods blessed me with the obvious idea: search in English! 😅
So I found this page and FINALLY I'm able to change my diet.
Thanks!
Yum
This is one of my fave desserts
Thank you for telling us that you can cut the sugar in half. ☺️
I can taste the oranges from here! MMMMMMMmmmmmmmm!
I'm going to make this but with half of the syrup lol
Thanks, Bill.
Yummy❤ I’m making it today!
Thanks for sharing this 👍🏽👍🏽😃
