Greece: Not Returning to Junior Eurovision in 2025 – Eurovision News | Music

Greece will not return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, continuing its long absence from the beloved children’s contest.

The last time ERT participated in Junior Eurovision was in 2008, with Niki Giannoutsou performing the song “Kapia Nyhta”. Since then, for various reasons – the main one being low public interest – the Greek public broadcaster has chosen not to return to the contest.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will mark the 23rd edition of the event and is set to take place on 13 December 2025 at the Small Hall of the Olympic Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia, following the country’s victory in 2024 with the song “To My Mom” by Andria Putkaradze.

This will be the second time that Georgia hosts the contest, with the first being in 2017, also in Tbilisi.

As for this year’s developments:

  • Croatia is making a comeback after a period of absence,

  • ❌ while Estonia and Germany will not participate in 2025. Germany, in particular, stated that it is “re-evaluating its strategy” regarding youth entertainment.

Despite occasional discussions in the past, ERT does not appear to be seriously considering a return, even though many countries have recently expressed renewed interest, helping to boost the momentum and popularity of the competition.
