Remarkable offers and discounts on initial airfare prices are available to the American traveling public wishing to travel to a destination, both within the United States and abroad, including Athens and Greek islands, this summer, which is shaping up to be a “season of opportunity” for American travelers.
More specifically, according to data from the travel platform Going, a steep drop of up to 50% is recorded in the initial prices of airline tickets from the United States to Greece this summer, as for example, the cost of a flight from St. Louis to Athens is $573.
In addition to Athens, there are other popular Greek islands, with fares being 42% cheaper on flights from New York to Mykonos, Santorini and Corfu, starting at $584.
August the cheapest month for air travel
Of the three months of summer, August emerges as the most affordable to American travelers for both domestic and international flights, with average domestic airfares at $424 and average international airfares at $1,224. These fares are significantly lower than those of June and July.
In particular, international flights in August offer the potential to save more than $180, compared to June, while domestic flights in the last month of summer are $22 cheaper, compared to July, according to Going’s analysis.
“Economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and tariffs have already dampened demand for a period that usually generates large revenues for airlines,” explained Going’s travel expert Katy Nastro. She added: “The significant discounts on long-haul flights in the expensive months of July and August suggest that even airlines are noticing a change in the way people are spending.”
Price deals on international airline tickets are also expected to be disproportionately plentiful this summer, according to Going.
Already, offers to Europe during the high, summer season occur with greater frequency and also have a longer duration than usual. This, of course, is due to the widely reported drop in international arrivals to the US, as visitors from other countries avoid travel to the US following the arrests at the country’s ports of entry.
According to Ms. Nastro, reduced international arrivals combined with some weakening demand are creating international fares that were more widely available in what would be considered a last-minute booking for the summer.
The premium seats are cheaper
According to Going’s analysis, after several years of airlines exploiting the demand for premium leisure seats, the changing priority of travellers may now make premium cabins more affordable, as fewer people are choosing to spend big bucks on business class seats.
“Selected European carriers are offering decent premium economy fares with some availability for the summer. Take for example the flight from Seattle to Frankfurt with Condor. Earlier today, we found a $970 round-trip ticket in premium economy with select June dates available,” Ms. Nastro said.
