Neil Young reunited with old bandmate Stephen Stills on Saturday during the Light Up The Blues 7 benefit concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre. Young also unveiled a new song entitled “Let’s Roll Again” and played his first “Ordinary People” since 1989.
Hosted by Kristen and Stephen Stills, Light Up The Blues promotes understanding and inclusion of people with autism. Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Billy Idol, Cat Power, Nathaniel Rateliff, Rufus Wainwright and Linda Perry were among those who performed at the seventh edition of the semi-annual fundraisers for Autism Speaks.
Stephen Stills played the penultimate set of Light Up The Blues 7 and was backed by Young’s band The Chrome Hearts. Stills kicked off his performance by teaming with Rateliff on the Manassas cut “Colorado.” He then offered “Hung Upside Down” from his time in Buffalo Springfield and solo gem “Turn Back The Pages” before performing CSN number “Dark Star.” Neil Young emerged to join Stills for his set-closing “For What It’s Worth.”

Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts — the ensemble consisting of multi-instrumentalist Micah Nelson and keyboardist Spooner Oldham along with the POTR rhythm section of bassist Corey McCormick and drummer Anthony LoGerfo — began their first set together of 2025 with the aforementioned “Let’s Roll Again” debut. The song includes the lyric “If your a fascist, then get a tesla,” which garnered a big cheer from the audience.
Young and his band then looked to 2015’s Monsanto Years for Neil’s first performance of “Big Box” since the year the album was released. Next up was the long-lost “Ordinary People,” which Young last played in public on April 18, 1989 as per Sugar Mountain. The 17-minute version of the song had the verses arranged as they appear on Young’s 2007 LP, Chrome Dreams II.
Stephen Stills and his son Chris Stills joined Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts for the last two songs of their 50-minute set — “Human Highway” and “Rockin’ In The Free World.” The latter saw Young lead the audience in chanting “Take America Back!” as he did earlier this month at the “Fighting Oligarchy” rally.
