*Varvakios Municipal Central Market*
Our Greek food adventure begins at the heart of Athens, the *Varvakios Municipal Central Market* . This bustling market is a feast for the senses, with traditional butcher shops, dairy vendors, and sweet and nut stalls offering a vibrant glimpse into the local food culture.
*Kostas – Traditional Kalamaki-Souvlaki*
Our first bite takes us to *Kostas* , the legendary kalamaki (souvlaki) spot where locals eagerly queue for a taste of their delicious kalamaki pita. The simple yet flavorful souvlaki has made Kostas a beloved institution in Athens, and we can’t wait to experience this much-anticipated bite of Greek street food.
*Kalamakia O Elvis*
Next, we head to *Kalamakia O Elvis* , a place that pays tribute to the late King of Rock ‘n’ Roll while serving up some of the best kalamakis in Athens. Famous for its outstanding souvlaki, this spot offers true Greek flavors that live up to its name and fame. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to taste the iconic kalamaki done right.
*Lukumades – Authentic Greek Loukoumades*

Here, we try traditional Greek loukoumades, but with a modern twist—served with a variety of exciting toppings or even paired with ice cream. This sweet treat is taken to the next level, making for an unforgettable dessert experience in Athens.
*Το Χρυσό Στάχυ – Bougatsa Shop*
Our morning begins with visiting the *Το Χρυσό Στάχυ* (Golden Wheat) probably the best bougatsa shop in the city, where we indulge in some incredibly crunchy and delicious bougatsa pies. Whether filled with sweet custard cream or savory cheese, these pies are a morning delight that is not to be missed.
*Ψωμι & Ελιά*
For lunch, we stop at *Bread & Olive* , a traditional home-cooked food restaurant offering a variety of hot meals. From classic Greek dishes to hearty home-style cooking, this place provides a true taste of Greece’s comforting and flavorful culinary heritage.
*Achileas – The Unique Gyro Spot*
As evening falls, we visit *Achileas* , the most unique gyro spot in Athens. Known for its traditionally made, fresh gyros, this place is a hidden gem that sells out fast. We were lucky enough to get our hands on this Athenian food treasure, and it did not disappoint!

How can food be good in a country that doesn't have a breakfast culture?
As a Turk, We have really close culture with Greeks, all of them looks delicious by the way, I had to chance visit Greece a couple times but never had the chance to visit Athens, Will be my one of the next destinations. I'm also living in Aegean side of the Turkey, Izmir. I would definitely suggest to come and visit Izmir but you'll find no new things. I would suggest south-east side of Turkey for new food adventures. Keep going, you're doing great. by the way greetings to my long lasting neighbor Greece from Izmir.
Where exactly in Athens were all these souvlaki restaurants?
( suburbs name please?)
Çakmaki yemeklerki, come to Türkiye and taste real ones bro this all nothing 🙂
Come to Thessaloniki if you want to eat souvlaki and gyros . In Athens they have no clue
Good food
If you hadn't neglected to have your cholesterol, cardiovascular health tests done after the video shoot was over. So you're on a path of no return

🇹🇷 🇬🇷 The Influence of Turkish Cuisine on Greek Cuisine
Turkish and Greek cuisines have been intertwined throughout history, leading to the development of many shared flavors. During the centuries of Ottoman rule, the culinary culture in the region was significantly shaped. Many dishes commonly found in Greek cuisine today, such as dolma, pilaki, lokma, and baklava, bear the deep traces of Ottoman cuisine.
Dolma originated during the Ottoman era and spread across the empire’s vast territories. Stuffed with rice, spices, and sometimes meat, dolma remains a favorite dish in both Turkey and Greece.
Pilaki is an olive oil-based dish that played a significant role in Ottoman cuisine. Variants made with beans or fish were widely consumed, especially in Istanbul and along the Aegean coast. Today, it is known in Greek cuisine as “plaki.”
Lokma was a popular dessert in the Ottoman palace kitchens. These deep-fried dough balls soaked in sweet syrup became a beloved treat across Anatolia and other Ottoman-ruled regions. Today, in Greece, they are known as “loukoumades.”
Baklava has its roots in Middle Eastern and Ottoman cuisine. Made with thin layers of pastry filled with nuts such as walnuts or pistachios, this dessert spread across the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean under Ottoman influence. Today, it is also highly popular in Greece.
In conclusion, many of the well-known dishes in Greek cuisine have been heavily influenced by Ottoman and Turkish cuisine. This cultural exchange has enriched both cuisines and resulted in a variety of shared flavors.
As a greek i can say you did a great job trying a variety of greek cuisine. We take pride in our food and has a very big range of salty foods and desserts.🙏🏻🧿🇬🇷
Based on this video, I’m now pricing a trip to Athens from Scotland and can’t wait to try all that food and soak up that Greek experience
Everything the foods and desserts turkish origin. You may eat more good in turkey
Great video – but some feedback, in a long and busy video like this, hearing “Let’s Go” every 90 seconds becomes a bit tiresome… Give it back to Fabrizio Romano and everybody will be happy!
Kebap Türk yemeğidir yunanistan değil
Spent nearly two months on extended holiday in Greece. Coming from the US, our Gyros are made from beef and lamb with spices. In Greece this type of Gyro did not seem to exist. The majority I ate were pork or chicken. I enjoyed it them mostly, felt the quality was very mixed. If you come to Chicago, try a Grecian Delight (aka Kronos) Gyro. It has an incredible flavor that’s very unique.
All the dishes you experience there are Turkish dishes. You can research. All of them are registered Turkish dishes. Since Greece did not have a food culture, he preferred to steal… 🇹🇷
Most of those foods are not Greek all are Turkish 😂😂 even names are Turkish
📌📌📌📌YOU ARE A LIAR AND AS THIEF AS THE CHINESE. ALL THE FOODS YOU SHOW ARE TASTES THAT HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE TO THE TURKS FOR CENTURIES.. STOP THEFT
