GREECE, N.Y. — A person is dead after their car went off Long Pond Road and into an inlet of Lake Ontario on Sunday evening.
New York State Police say they initially responded for a welfare check on someone in a mental health crisis. Soon after, Greece Police spotted the person’s car driving on Long Pond Road. According to police, the car left the road, hit a break wall, and fell into Long Pond Outlet.
Greece Police crews went into the water to try to rescue the person but the person died of their injuries. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office is doing an autopsy and the investigation is ongoing.
