ATHENS – Theatre of the No, Athens’ first English-speaking theatre, welcomes Alcedo Folk Band to its stage for two unforgettable nights of music, with their performance ‘Songs beyond Borders’. Two unique nights, filled with both familiar and undiscovered melodies from Greek regional traditions to “world music” influences, along with the band’s original compositions, on Thursdays, March 20 and April 3 at 9 PM.
A musical journey across an unwritten map, where every destination is a song. Travel from the Renaissance and medieval cantatas to the Sephardic melodies of Thessaloniki, from Angelo Branduardi to an Asia Minor ballos infused with an Irish spirit, from Johann Sebastian Bach and Swan Lake to the sounds of 18th-century Constantinople, from Vassilis Tsitsanis to a vibrant Cretan pentozali or a Pyrgousikos dance from Chios, with unique orchestrations that blend flute, bassoon, and tuba with strings and percussion.
