The LA Kings have issued an apology to the Armenian community after it was revealed that scarves produced for the team’s Armenian Heritage Night were manufactured in Turkey. The discovery sparked backlash due to Turkey’s historical role in the Armenian Genocide, a deeply sensitive issue for the Armenian diaspora.
In a statement, the team, along with its partners Rank + Rally and the TEAM LA Store, acknowledged the oversight and expressed regret for any unintended harm caused. The Kings explained that they source merchandise from league-approved manufacturers and were unaware of the scarves’ country of origin.
Following criticism from Armenian fans and community leaders, the TEAM LA Store announced it would offer full refunds or exchanges for customers who purchased the scarves. Returns can be processed in person at the TEAM LA Store, open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM and during LA Kings games. Those unable to visit the store can request a prepaid shipping label by emailing [email protected].
The controversy has fueled frustration among many in the Armenian community, who viewed the situation as a painful oversight. Some fans took to social media to express their disappointment, emphasizing that an item meant to honor Armenian heritage should not have been produced in a country with a contentious history regarding Armenia.
