Greek tourism records record numbers for 2024 – Aviation.Direct


The Greek tourism sector experienced a record year in 2024, with 35,9 million foreign visitors and revenues of 21,7 billion euros. Despite a decline in average spending per trip, total revenues increased due to a significant increase in visitor numbers. Particularly noteworthy is the growth in visitor numbers from Germany, Italy and the USA.

According to data from the Bank of Greece, the travel surplus increased to 18,9 billion euros. Travel revenues increased by 5,4 percent, while travel spending increased by 14,5 percent. The main drivers of revenue growth were visitors from EU countries, whose spending increased by 7 percent. Germany and the UK remained important sources of revenue, although spending by British travellers declined slightly. The number of US visitors increased significantly.

The number of tourist arrivals increased by 9,8 percent compared to the previous year. Growth was particularly strong in arrivals from Germany, Italy and the USA. The number of French tourists also increased, while the number of Russian tourists fell significantly. Tourism also experienced strong growth in winter, with revenues increasing by 33,3 percent in December.
