ATHENS – After her three highly successful performances at the Half Note Jazz Club, Fenia Papadodima returns on Wednesday, March 12, 9:30 PM, with Women’s Prayers, bringing to the stage voices of women from around the world, through traditions and songs of great composers. Accompanied by an exceptional ensemble of musicians, Andreas Polyzogopoulos, Giorgos Palamiotis, Giannis Kirimkiridis, and Panagiotis Kostopoulos, she presents the unique Jazz & Heritage of the World band.
Inspired by the lives and voices of influential women both historical figures and those she encountered through her theatrical career Papadodima brings to life the essence of Frida Kahlo, Billie Holiday, Marika Papagika, Edith Piaf, Maria Polydouri, and her personal acquaintance with Jeanne Moreau. She writes her own songs and draws material from legendary performers like Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Rosa Eskenazi, Sheila Chandra, Esther Lamandier, Marika Papagika, Edith Piaf, and Elis Regina- a tribute to women who were creators, poets, painters, actresses, singers, women who truly changed the world by transforming their own place within it.

Profoundly influenced by the groundbreaking Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Jazz & Heritage movement, Papadodima masterfully blends Afro-American and Afro-Brazilian music with European, Greek, Sephardic, Eastern, and Indian traditions. The repertoire includes iconic compositions by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Michel Legrand, Guillermo Portabales, Manuel de Falla, Mikis Theodorakis, and Vasilis Tsitsanis, all reimagined through a contemporary jazz improvisational lens.
Many of these songs have left a lasting impact, challenging perceptions, amplifying women’s voices, and inspiring change. They have given a voice to hidden struggles, encouraged female creators to express themselves freely, and served as prayers, songs that dismantled prejudice, fought against discrimination, and became anthems of empowerment and liberation.
