Will The US Relocate Nuclear Weapons From Incirlik, Turkey To Greece?

Rumors of the US potentially moving its nuclear arsenal from Incirlik Air Base in Turkey to Greece have resurfaced, though no official confirmation exists. Reports indicate the US stores approximately 50 B61 nuclear bombs at Incirlik.

While discussions around relocating these weapons have taken place, including a 2016 proposal to move them to Romania (denied by Romanian officials), and a 2021 suggestion by a US analyst to shift the entire base to Crete due to Turkey’s growing ties with Russia and the perceived influence of Islam under President Erdogan, no concrete action has been taken.

Greece’s Araxos base possesses the necessary storage facilities, though it hasn’t housed nuclear weapons since 2001. Despite speculation and informal discussions, the transfer remains unconfirmed.
