Pavlos Pavlidis at Release Athens 2025

Release Athens 2025 welcomes Pavlos Pavlidis, on Saturday June 21st, at Plateia Nerou. The great singer-songwriter, after two consecutive sold-out concerts at Floyd Live Music Venue and another at the City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre, returns to Plateia Nerou for a landmark show in his tremendous career! Just before him, another important act, as the wonderful Konstantinos Bhta returns to Release Athens, two years after Stereo Nova’s triumphant performance at the same venue. The excellent Super Stereo will be the opening act.

Pavlos Pavlidis is one of the most original and influential voices in contemporary Greek music. He began his career in the mid-90s as the frontman of Xylina Spathia, which left an indelible mark on the Greek alternative scene. After the group disbanded in 2003, Pavlidis embarked on a highly successful solo career, highlighting his unique musical identity and great lyrical talent.

With classic albums such as “Afou Loipon Xehastika” (2004), “Auto ploio pou olo ftanei” (2010), “Istories pou isws exoyn symbei” (2013) and “Mia pyrkagia se ena spirtokouto”, he has managed to create a distinctive artistic universe that has become a trademark of contemporary Greek music.

Almost a year ago, Pavlidis presented his new work titled “Brancaleone” and achieved something remarkable. The album received rave reviews and is considered by many to be the best album he has ever released, revealing an artist who is at the peak of his creative powers, even though his solo career spans more than 20 years and his career as a whole more than 30 years.

The same is true of his live performances, which have been embraced by old and new friends of his music, with consecutive sold-out shows. Surrounded by excellent musicians – Alekos Georgoulopoulos (guitar, synths, vocals), Alexis Stavropoulos (drums, sample pads), Thanasis Tzingovits (bass) and Aki Rei (keyboards) – and accompanied by impressive visuals created by Vassilis Kechagias, he offers his live shows a completely modern audiovisual character, adapted to the standards of our time.

On the 21st of June, Pavlos Pavlidis will celebrate his unbelievable career with the biggest show he has ever given (until the next one). An evening dedicated to all the phases of his musical journey, full of excitement, surprises and, above all, some of the best songs of the modern local scene.

Konstantinos Bhta needs no introduction. With Stereo Nova in the early 90s, he marked a new era for the country’s music scene. With a unique lyrical talent that accurately and sensitively captured the Athenian urban experience, combined with electronic dance music at a time when the genre was experiencing its greatest artistic boom, he delivered some of the top albums of the 90s that influenced generations of producers.

At the end of the 90s, he would embark to a new and equally important career as a solo artist, releasing unforgettable records (“Gia Sena Me Agaph”, Agria Xloh”, “Argos” etc.) collaborating with important local musicians (Popi Asteriadi, Dimitra Galani) and creating several special projects like the rework of Manos Xatzidakis’ music in “Transformations” LP, his original take on the poetry of Yannis Ritsos, presented at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, and the music he presented at the opening of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.  At the same time, he started writing soundtracks to important plays and documentaries (“Angel Baby”, “Agelastos Petra”, “Cleansed”, “Zakros” etc.), with the creative and commercial success of “2”, directed and choreographed by Dimitris Papaioannou, being one the most special moments of his career.

In 2024, he released his tenth solo album called, “The Hand”, an ideal occasion to return to Plateia Nerou after the historic Stereo Nova performance in 2023, to present a set that will take you through the highlights of his magnificent musical career.
