Rémy Cointreau-owned House of Metaxa has created a limited edition design for its 12 Stars expression, inspired by the Greek god of storm and thunder, Zeus.

The limited edition bottle has been designed for ‘the generations of consumers who love all things mysterious, dramatic and godly’.
In contrast to the minimalist design of the regular Metaxa 12 Stars bottle, the Zeus Edition features a dark blue background and neon highlights that glow in the dark when illuminated with a UV light – a feature that has been designed to be reminiscent of the ‘breathtaking spectacle’ that takes place in the sky during a thunderstorm.
Also on the bottle is a colourful image of Zeus, which the brand says ‘brings back the king of the gods in a modern way’.
While the bottle has been reimagined for this exclusive release, the spirit inside remains unchanged.
Crafted with aromatic Muscat wines from the Samos island alongside aged wine distillates and Mediterranean botanicals, Metaxa 12 Stars is aged in both medium and heavily toasting oak casks.
The liquid is described as a one-of-a-kind amber spirit, similar to a brandy, and offers notes of dried fruit, orange peel and hints of spies. It is presented at 40% ABV.
The Zeus edition is now available in several markets including Greece, Germany, the UK, Poland, Czech Republic and Canada.
The bottle will be primarily introduced to market via extensive promotion on Instagram and YouTube, as well as via an online contest with ‘exceptional prizes’.
To mark the launch, the House of Metaxa has created a signature serve called the Zeus Sour, made using petimezi, a molasses made using the juice extracted from crushed grapes, including the skins, seeds, and stems, that is claimed to have been revered by Greeks for millennia.
To make the Zeus Sour, combine 50ml Metaxa 12 Stars with 20ml fresh lemon juice, 5ml petimezi syrup, 20ml sweet Muscat wine, and 20ml egg white (or a vegan substitute) in a shaker with ice, and shake well. Strain the ice and dry shake before pouring into a glass over ice and garnishing with floating foam.
Metaxa 12 Stars Zeus Edition is available for £37 (US$45.80) per 700ml bottle.
Metaxa debuted a limited edition Grecian-inspired bottle called Grande Fine in 2022.
