Rumors that the BBC was going for something completely different for this year’s Eurovision entry have finally been confirmed. Desperately searching for the magic formula that will lift the British entry out of the bottom three – and perhaps even come close to Sam Ryder’s great success in 2022 – the historic channel has chosen to move in country rhythms!
BBC is sending Remember Monday to Basel! Three young British women, who specialize in country music and whose strong point is their vocal harmonies.
Remember Monday consists of Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele. The three met in high school and bonded over their shared love of music. They decided to meet every Monday to create music. They rose to fame after appearing on The Voice UK in 2019, where they impressed the judges with their harmonies and song choices.
The trio has gained popularity on TikTok, where they upload covers of various songs, often in parking lots due to the acoustics. They have also released their own singles, including “Hysterical Women,” “Laugh About It,” and “Drive.” Remember Monday has been praised for their vocal abilities, chemistry, and authenticity as a country band.
It should be noted that country music has made an impressive sweep of the global charts throughout 2024, and apparently the BBC wanted to capitalize on this strong recent trend by choosing Remember Monday. We will wait to listen to their song to assess their chances of saving their country from yet another placement slump.
However, if we want to see the BBC’s choice with optimism, the girls have at least two things in common with Sam Ryder: their impressive vocal abilities and the fact that they cover Queen, as you can see in the video below, which has over 4.5 million views on YouTube:
