It’s the stuff dreams are made of… and New Jersey native Evangelia Psarakis, known by her first name only by millions of adoring fans throughout the world, is watching her dreams turn into reality.
Growing up with an Italian American mom and a Greek-born father from Crete, Evangelia had the pretty typical upbringing of most Greek Americans of her generation. Summers in the village in Crete helped shape her and build a love and respect for her Greek heritage, while back home in New Jersey she excelled in school, became a teacher after graduation and always had music in the back of her mind.
The turning point in her life came when she lost her job as a teacher because of school budget cuts and decided to take a full-time dive into music.
Quite a lot has happened to this Jersey girl since then, including being selected amongst the 12 finalists– from almost 200 songs submitted– for the chance to represent Greece in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest.
Her song, Vale, is an upbeat pop song with elements of her Greek, American, Cretan heritage peppered throughout the beats and rhythms.
Evangelia, along with the other 11 finalists, will compete in Greece’s national final on January 30th, which will be broadcast on Greece’s national television network ERT.
