Pop artist ΣTELLA pushes new boundaries, intertwining her Greek heritage throughout her latest project Adagio.
Greek musician ΣTELLA has announced the release of her fifth upcoming album, Adagio– out April 4.
Directed by Debora Maité, ΣTELLA released an accompanying music video along with the title track. Her album, spanning 27 minutes, was completed after more than five years. The pop record includes collaborations from musicians like Rafael Cohen (Las Palabras) and Gabriel Stebbing.
While all of her previous work is sung in English, ΣTELLA includes two Greek songs on Adagio– ‘Omorfo Mou’ and a cover of cult classic ‘Ta Vimata.’ The inspiration for ‘Omorfo Mou,’ which translates to “my beautiful one,” came to her in 2019 during an 11-hour boat ride to the island Anafi. While on the boat, she used her phone to record instrumentals that would later become her first Greek song.
During the Covid-19 pandemic she began emailing with Cohen, and the two wrote five songs over Zoom. Despite never meeting in person, three of the songs they created provided a framework for Adagio. Collectively, the album is described as a “meditation on love and desire, rest, and time.”
