Google Reveals Top Trending Moments For Greeks In 2024

As 2024 comes to an end, Google looks back at the top trending searches of the year and reveals the most popular topics and persons Greeks hunted for -from sports, where UEFA’s European Football Championship tops the trending list to celebrities and singer Marina Satti, the most Googled person in Greece.

In its “Year in Search” data, a report Google publishes every year showing what users have Googled over the 12 months, Google reveals that Euro (UEFA‘s European Championship) that was hosted in Germany during the summer, was the biggest trending topic in Greece for 2024, followed by the country’s various wildfires.

The list of the top 10 trends in Greece also includes “Warning for extreme heat” in third place, “Tourism for all,” in fourth place, “Artistic swimming in the Olympic Games” in the sixth place, Olympic Games on the 8th and “Poor Things” on the 10th place, the movie by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos that scooped four Oscars during this year’s Academy Awards.

Regarding the most Googled persons by Greeks, Marina Satti, the Greek singer who represented the country in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest that took place in Sweden in May tops the list.

She is followed by Marinella, the veteran 86-year-old Greek singer who collapsed on stage during her concert at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in September, Emmanouil Karalis, the Greek pole vaulter who won the bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris who is on the third place, followed by Kate Middletone, the Princess of Wales, who this year announced that she had cancer. Donald Trump, the US President-elect is seventh on Greece’s list with the most trending persons.

Poor Things” tops the list of the 10 most Googled movies in Greece, followed by “Inside Out 2,” “Dune,” “Saltburn” and “Deadpool.”

Greeks also wondered “Why Tuesday the 13th is considered unlucky,” “Why we lie on April Fool’s Day,” “Why Las Vegas was founded,” “Why I’m always sleepy,” “When is Black Friday in 2024,” “What is PTSD,” “What is tofu,” and “What is kefaloudi,” (the white-headed duck).

Google also reveals top global trending moments of 2024

In 2024, there were major athletic events that had millions of people searching for sporting moments. “Copa America” and the “UEFA European Championship” led the top trending moments globally.

With nearly half the world’s population going to polls in 2024, global interest in elections skyrocketed this year. “U.S. Election” was the top trending news search across the planet and presidential candidates “Donald Trump” and “Kamala Harris” were among the top trending people.

“Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar was the top trending song globally and “Inside Out 2” was the top trending movie of the year.
