Leea Nanos from Eurovision – Australia Decides, has reportedly submitted a song for the Greek national final.
As many know, Sydney’s Andrew Lambrou and Silia Kapsis have represented Cyprus in recent years.
So with Australia’s strong connection to Greece, is it time an Aussie represented Greece? Possibly!
Greece is hosting their first national selection since 2017 and their first with multiple artists since 2015.
It will be the first open selection for 22 years which has seen hundreds of entries submitted.
A list of names who are said to have submitted a song to the Greek broadcaster ERT to compete has been published by Eurovision fan site Eurovision Fun.
Australia’s own Leea Nanos is one of those names on the list.
Australian born with a Greek father, Leea Nanos is a singer songwriter who is no stranger to the world of Eurovision.
She competed at Eurovision – Australia Decides 2019 with the song Set Me Free.
Further, in 2022 Leea competed in ‘Eurovision – Australia Decides’ 2022 as a songwriter with her song Bite Me sung by Aussie girl group G-Nat!on. The group finished in 5th place overall and third in the televote.
Since then, Leea has released many singles including Bad Girl and Unstoppable, as well as writing for other artists. Last year, Leea released her debut EP: Switch Profile.
Back in 2023, we had a chat with Leea who told us she was very interested in pursuing the Eurovision dream.
“…something is in the works that is highly confidential at the moment, but let’s just say the vibe of the music video and the vibe of the songs – they’re probably coming to Eurovision… Eurovision is my family so I would be honoured [to compete] – I would like to try for Greece or Cyprus. There has been some speculation for a couple of years about that with me. Let’s pray something for the future comes about.”
ERT are yet to announce the date and venue and the finalists for their national final. The song will be chosen by the public and two juries in a 50/50 vote.
