British supermodel Georgina Cooper, a prominent figure of ‘Cool Britannia’ and a close friend of Kate Moss, has sadly passed away at the age of 46 while on a Greek island, just months after her wedding.
Fellow models, including Jade Parfitt, Erin O’Connor, Jodie Kidd, and Helena Christensen, have paid tribute, describing her as a “ray of light” with significant achievements in the fashion industry.
When she fell ill, Georgina was vacationing on Kos with her new husband, Nigel. Initially taken to the island’s main hospital, her condition deteriorated, prompting doctors to arrange an air ambulance to Crete, which has superior medical facilities. After spending five days in intensive care, she tragically passed away, and her body was flown back to England last week.
Her former agent, Dean Goodman, shared his heartbreak: “She loved Greece and was excited to return with her new husband, but tragically died there a fortnight ago. Georgina had faced health issues during COVID and had been in and out of hospitals, but she had plans for the future and was looking forward to her new life. Everyone is devastated; she was a true superstar.”
Georgina was discovered by a modelling agency at 13, with her first breakthrough occurring when she starred in a Bon Jovi music video at 15. She quickly became a defining face of the 1990s, known as London’s “original gap-toothed girl,” and worked with renowned photographer Corinne Day, gracing the covers of US Vogue and The Face.
Having married in early June near her home in Maidstone, Kent, Georgina celebrated her reception at a local pub. She shared joyful moments from her honeymoon in Kos on social media. However, she returned to the island in late October, where her health took a tragic turn.
Jade Parfitt expressed her sorrow, saying, “Her friends and family are devastated. Georgina was a ray of light, a beloved model full of fun and laughter. We all wanted to be around her backstage.”
Dean Goodman paid tribute on Instagram, saying, “I’m in total shock. I just spoke to her about meeting up after her wedding. She was the original gap-toothed girl! I will miss her immensely. Rest in peace, Georgie girl; I will never forget you.”
While the cause of her death remains unclear, Georgina had dedicated her recent years to raising funds for various charities, particularly those supporting individuals with liver and lung conditions. Her sister-in-law, Tracey Wallace, described Georgina’s passing as a “tragedy,” expressing deep sadness over the loss.
Georgina was not only a beloved model but also closely associated with notable British brands such as Alexander McQueen, Burberry, and Stella McCartney. She regularly walked the runway for major fashion houses like Armani and Versace and made her mark in the industry with numerous iconic appearances.
