Launching the business less than one year ago, brothers: George, Andrew, and Peter Samothrakitis use only the finest ingredients to play a sincere homage to the quintessence of their motherland, Greece, and to honour their yiayia’s patrimony. Between 20 and 26 years of age, the brothers each pursue their own careers. George works as a primary school teacher, while Andrew and Peter work in information technology, in which they balance their shared passion of cooking their yiayia’s passed down recipes into a thriving entrepreneurial enterprise. However, Yiayia’s Glyka is more than just a collection of sweet Epicurean delicacies, it is a family business with a purpose.

On November 9th, Yiayia’s Glyka will host a commemorative fundraiser, uniting society in a shared mission to advance awareness, encouraging all those seeking to foster transformation and join this earnest cause. In line with Lung Cancer Awareness Month this November, Yiayia’s Glyka have partnered with Shine a Light. The fundraiser facilitates a community walk in ode of loved ones who have been affected by lung cancer, advocating for the 15,122 Australians diagnosed every year.

Furthermore, the brothers will be premiering their first Oakleigh Glendi event this weekend on Saturday, November 2^ndbetween 11am – 9pm, and Sunday, November 3^rdbetween 11am – 6pm. The Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh and District, as well as Oakleigh Grammar School, present a jubilant revelry of traditions, a radiant tapestry of Greek music and dance, and the irresistible aroma of timeless cuisine. Hosted at the Warawee Park Oakleigh, the festivity is expected to attract over 15,000 people within its 9^th edition. The main stage features a diverse showcase of multicultural performances, celebrating the richness of Hellenic heritage, from international headliner Kostas Karafotis to beloved local artist Maria Maroulis.

Alongside Yiayia’s Glyka, the cooking stage includes culinary demonstration from world renowned chef, George Calombaris, Souva Bar presented by The Hellenic House Project, the Melvourni Café, and Honey Dee Loukoumades. Interactive games, craft workshops, free rides, roving entertainment, and artisan markets will harmoniously add to the weekend’s elation.
