‘Percy Jackson’ Gets Musical Twist At Ocean City Theatre Company

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Enjoy a modern spin on Greek mythology that children will love this weekend with Ocean City Theatre Company’s production of “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.”

Based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel, OCTC’s production runs Nov. 2 and 3 at the Ocean City Music Pier.

The creative team consists of Morgan D’Alessio, Brinley Edwards, Hannah Breed, James Hartman, Michael Dress, and Laura Bretherick and the show features a talented cast of 28 students in seventh through 12th grades.

“We are incredibly excited to bring ‘The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical’ to the Ocean City Music Pier Stage,” said Michael Hartman, OCTC’s Artistic Director. “This story celebrates the power of friendship, courage, and self-discovery, and we believe it will resonate deeply with our students and audiences alike.”

According to the book: “As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen, and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he must find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods.”

“The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical,” with music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki and a book by Joe Tracz, brings Rick Riordan’s beloved characters to life. “The Lighting Thief” is presented with permission from Concord Theatricals and was originally commissioned, created, and produced Off-Broadway by TheaterWorksUSA.

“The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” also offers important messages about inclusivity and acceptance. Through its cast of characters and themes of empathy and understanding, the musical encourages audiences to embrace their differences and stand up for what is right.

“The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” plays this Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier.
