Greek Food Fest back for 21st year

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The kitchen was busy inside historic Lewisburg Hall in Corvallis where Mona Soot and her team prepared a feast of authentic Greek Food.

In it’s 21st year, the Greek Food Fest has been bringing community members closer together. Some coming from as far as the San Francisco Bay Area.

“We started small, it’s just about doubled every year. I think last year we served about two thousand people. It’s a place we show hospitality to the community… and just have a good time,” says Mona.

Mona’s husband, Fr. Stephen Soot is in charge of the St. Anne Orthodox Church, the hosts of the event. Being a member of the church is not required, as all are invited to a celebration of food, dance, and culture.

Lines were long but guests were more than happy to wait. A platter of three entrees cost $20 and a larger tailgate platter cost $37.

The menu included braisedlamb, chicked, pork souvlaki, spanakopita, pasticcio, falafel, and more.

There were also deserts like baklava, greek coffee, and more served at the event.

And guests were invited to dance to the musical performances that filled the outdoor canopy with an upbeat sound.

“We have friends who come back from the Bay Area, and we have friends who are not members of the church but they come every year to help. It’s just really fun. They look forward to coming back and helping.”

The event has been running since Friday but continues on into Sunday, October 13th. The Greek Fest’s last day will run from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
