The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Will Perform At The Athens Concert Hall

One of the world’s largest and most important orchestras, the famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Vasily Petrenko, will have the opportunity to delight the Greek public in a concert on October 13 at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall.

Joining the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Christos Lambrakis Hall of the Megaron Athens Concert Hall is the rising South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim, who will perform the popular Piano Concerto No. 2 by Frédéric Chopin.

The young virtuoso has been wowing audiences and critics with his profound musicianship and impeccable technique and won international recognition when he became the youngest winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022 at the age of 18.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has chosen from its rich repertoire of works by well-known European composers, such as the “Carnival” by Antonín Dvořák and the “Concerto for Orchestra” by Béla Bartók.

After his successful tenure at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, multi-award-winning conductor Vasily Petrenko became the artistic director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021.

His resume includes numerous collaborations with renowned orchestras from around the world, participation in international festivals and world tours with well-known orchestral ensembles, and numerous recordings. His repertoire still includes over 30 operas.

Yunchan Lim has soared on the international music scene following the awarding of the gold medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. His interpretations of works Liszt and Rachmaninoff made him one of the most popular artists on YouTube (10 million views).

Also, the New York Times has included him in the 10 best of 2022. Since then, his path has been constantly upward: enviable collaborations with orchestras and conductors of international prestige, appearances in the world’s biggest concert halls and many recordings.

For almost 80 years, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has played a leading role in the United Kingdom’s cultural events and the world music scene. It performs around 200 concerts a year, and its audience exceeds 60 million worldwide.

The orchestra focuses on the live presentation of symphonic works and the interpretation and recording of compositions for television, film productions and video games.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is also known for its frequent collaborations with featured pop stars, original educational programs, and widely accepted inclusive initiatives.

Its mission is to bring orchestral music closer to contemporary society and, through collaboration with creative partners, to strengthen its links with local communities to make live orchestral music accessible to the widest possible audience.
