Honors History Society Phi Alpha Theta hosted a trivia night with questions ranging from Greek mythology to modern songs and movies.
Some questions asked for information about the Renaissance period, Greek gods, ancient Europe and ancient Rome.
Participants ended the night with questions about modern topics related to movie quotes and songs.
“Our target demographic was people who might not be into history. We wanted to teach them something new,” senior history major and Phi Alpha Theta secretary Anna Batten said. “It was open to anyone who wanted to come and learn.”
History professor Jeffrey Anderson, Ph.D., also participated in the trivia and offered bonus points to attending students from his classes.
The event saw 14 students competing for a Chick-fil-A gift card.
Anderson maintained the lead for most of the event. He sparked friendly competition among students, including freshman computer science major Prince Rajbanshi.
“I liked the competitiveness between the students and the professor. It was fun trying to dethrone him from the number one spot,” Rajbanshi said.
Although Anderson ultimately won the game, he denied the prize and generously passed it on to the second-place winner.
The trivia night featured an event fresh to the history of society’s usual games.
Freshman computer science major Pratham Shah reflected on his experience.
“This was my first time at a history trivia event, and I enjoyed it, even when I wasn’t winning,” Shah said.
Phi Alpha Theta plans to host a history-themed board game night in October featuring games from Ancient Egypt and Greece.
