Greece’s Anastasia lights up the stage in Melbourne

From our flavour-filled feasts and families that could fill a whole village to our deep-rooted traditions that stand strong throughout the years, there’s much to love about our Greek culture.

A standout, in my opinion, is the smorgasbord of talent that brings the essence of our culture to life. From Pantelis Pantelidis, Yiannis Parios, and Anna Vissi to Eleni Foureira and Nikos Oikonomopoulos, our singers are unmatched, with no signs of slowing down.

The latest star to come out of Greece and join the long list of greats is the dynamic, captivating, and naturally gifted singer, Anastasia.

Her rise to fame was quick and seamless, gaining international attention from the get-go, and after her sold-out performance at the Melbourne Pavilion last night, it’s not hard to see why.

Brimming with life, atmosphere and the Greek community of Melbourne, hundreds flocked to the venue of stars to watch on as Anastasia lit up the room with her chart-topping hits and undeniable stage presence.

Working the crowd like she would in her home-town of Corfu, the 21-year old took to the stage comfortably, backed by her rockstar-inspired band, as she belted out hits such as Mystiko, Allo, and Simadi.

First rising to fame at 19 years of age, adoring fans danced on tables, swung napkins above their heads, and threw flowers at her feet as they sang her words back to her, embracing the newcomer as if she had decades under her belt. The way she sang made it seem as though she might.

The crowd knocked back shots of chilled ouzo and let her pitch-perfect sound take them to a land far, far away, where nights out start at 3am, and finish on the beach with a lamb gyros in hand and the palpable sting of a Greek summer’s day.

Spearheading the new generation of Greek talent, Anastasia injected her energetic nature into all that came to watch, and there’s no doubt that this is only the beginning. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more Greek nights to come.
