GCM School Seniors treated to ‘Rebetiko’ Night ahead of VCE Exams

The schools of the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) did their part to prepare their students for the upcoming VCE exams with an evening at the Greek Centre filled with rebetiko music, food and mock exams.

The GCM schools came together on Tuesday 24 September to provide students with an element of fun and helpful study ahead of the VCE exams.

A key component of the night were the mock exams organised for the students to help get them ready for their upcoming tests, while it also acted as a celebration in the form of a rebetiko night.

It was an appropriate choice of music for the students, who have been studying rebetiko songs in their curriculum, as they were also treated to food and dancing.

The students also had a chance to hear from the 2022 graduates, who were also invited, about their exam experiences on the same topic.

Maria Bakalidou, Principal of the GCM Schools, stated that the event served well in providing an immersive approach to learning for the students, combining the rebetiko night with the students’ theoretical exam preparation.

She also expressed her pleasure in seeing past students thriving and remaining part of the school community.

The GCM schools extended their appreciation to musicians Argyris Argyropoulos, George Athanasopoulos, Thodoris Athanasopoulos, and Hristina Athanasopoulou for enriching the evening with their music and insights into the history of rebetiko.

They also gave their best wishes to all students for their exams.
