Kalamata, Greece, is set to host the 9th International Kalamata Music Days from August 24 to September 6, 2025. Recognized as one of Greece’s leading classical music festivals, it brings together acclaimed international artists, rising talents, and ensembles for an eclectic programme spanning medieval, classical, contemporary, and jazz music.
Concerts and masterclasses will take place at the historic Ekklesiasterion of Ancient Messene and the modern Kalamata Dance Megaron (Alternative Stage), offering audiences both iconic heritage settings and intimate performance spaces. Highlights include performances by renowned cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, violinist Jonian Ilias Kadesha, mezzo-soprano Ema Nikolovska, the Balkan ensemble TRI i DVE, and Greek early music group Lycabettus.
The festival emphasizes diversity, presenting music from medieval Europe, Balkan folk traditions, contemporary pop and avant-garde, and modern jazz. For the first time, it will host an International Young Artists Competition, giving emerging musicians the chance to perform in future editions. Masterclasses in piano, violin, viola, cello, vocal performance, and chamber music will also take place throughout the festival.
Organized by cellist Indira Rahmatulla, composer Stathis Giftakis, and cellist Dimitrios Lampos, the festival is supported by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and key sponsors including the George & Victoria Karelia Foundation, the J. F. Costopoulos Foundation, and the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation. It has been awarded the EFFE Label 2024–2025 for artistic quality.
