Who is our winner from Sing for Greece?

We ranked the songs taking part in the final, using a 1-14 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 14 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings.

3rd. Dinamiss – “Choas” (5.50):

2nd. Akylas – “Ferto” (5.00):

1st. Evangelia – “Parea” (3.83):

What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Song for Greece?

Samantha (Parea): Evangelia is a great performer and I love how she mixes the traditional Greek style with a fresh sound. Parea is an earworm (although that might just be due to how often it pops up on my fyp) and should get the audience chanting along, however I do feel like the staging needs to be BIG in order for it to stand out against other fan favourites (yes Akylas I’m talking about you). It also feels a tad bit disjointed at times and repetitive towards the end so it might be something to consider if it were to head to Vienna.

Kittens (Chaos): The way this started I assumed it wasn’t going to be for me but then it kicks up a notch and does not stop and for that I am very grateful. Chaos by name and chaos by nature, if this doesn’t do well I will just be mighty disappointed in Greece.

George (song): This is the winner of Sing for Greece and a clear Top 5 contender for May. Akylas, with his powerful and emotionally charged song, could elevate Greece to its strongest result in 21 years. It’s exactly the kind of entry that’s dominated the televote in recent contests. The only remaining question mark is the live performance. If Akylas delivers a commanding staging and solid vocals on the night, Greece could very well be heading to Vienna, and potentially even challenge for the win.

And what were the teams thoughts on the national final as a whole?

Molly: I have overall enjoyed this semi final and to me its one of the standouts of this national final season. This is a bhuge step up from last year and there are msany different diverse list of songs and genres in Dora this year. There seems to be a lot of girl bops this year as well which I do always look forward to. With this many dramtic styled songs I do wonder if the staging will be big enough to add the staging a lot of these songs deserve.

Rory: Semi-Final One really has a lot of the big fan favourites in the Greek selection this year, but I have to say I am just a little underwhelmed by what is on offer here. Some songs I can feel something towards, such as Panagiotis and Evangelia, but many others leave me cold. That’s fine, as semi 2 has a bit more up my alley, but I will be perfectly happy with whatever happens here

Greece’s Eurovision Journey

In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 44 occasions (41 of which made the Grand Final), and have won once, in 2005.

Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Klavdia with the song “Asteromáta”. Following her performance, Greece qualified for the Grand Final, finishing in 6th place. She earned a total of 231 points, of which 105 were from the national juries and 126 were from the televoters.
