ATHENS – A new version of Kostas Mountakis’ iconic ‘Mesopelaga Armenizo’ (‘I Sail on the Open Sea’) has been released by two outstanding women in music with an international artistic presence: composer and accordion virtuoso Zoe Tiganouria and gifted singer Erini.
Just a voice and an accordion
Zoe Tiganouria has created a spare and distinctive arrangement, combining elements of tango and jazz with the song’s traditional Cretan character. Zoe’s distinctive accordion playing and Erini’s characteristic voice create an atmospheric and expressive soundscape, highlighting the timeless power of Kostas Mountakis’s melody.
Erini, who has roots in Crete, has performed at Carnegie Hall and WOMEX, toured for three years with Cirque du Soleil, and teaches at Berklee College of Music.
Zoe Tiganouria, originally from Samothrace, is a composer and accordion virtuoso with many years of concert performances and recording activity in Greece and abroad. She also composed the music for the international film production ‘Forbidden Tango’ and numerous Greek productions.
