Two collaborative arts projects have each been awarded €15,000 under the 2026 Open Call for Collaborative Art Projects, an initiative supporting artistic cooperation between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot artists and cultural practitioners.
The selected projects, Third Space, led by Home for Cooperation, and East Cyprus Music Meetings, led by Windcraft Loud, were chosen from 27 applications spanning a range of artistic disciplines. Both initiatives aim to foster cultural dialogue, encourage shared artistic experiences and strengthen creative partnerships across the island.
Funded by the European Union, facilitated by the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the initiative supports the development and implementation of joint artistic projects.
The Open Call invited proposals exploring how contemporary artistic practices and shared cultural experiences can contribute to greater intercultural understanding, social dialogue and sustainable collaboration in Cyprus. Following a competitive selection process, the two projects were selected through an assessment based on the evaluation criteria outlined in the Call.
Third Space explores collaboration through contemporary circus
Led by Home for Cooperation, in collaboration with Metamorphê and Quantum Circus, Third Space will bring together Greek Cypriot, Turkish Cypriot and international artists through contemporary circus.
The project will combine artistic training and development with community workshops, dialogue, interviews and archival research, culminating in an original contemporary circus performance and a documentary.
Drawing on a range of artistic practices, including physical theatre, clowning, dance, aerial arts, juggling and music, the initiative will explore creative expression and collaboration beyond spoken language.
East Cyprus Music Meetings strengthens connections across the music sector
Led by Windcraft Loud, in cooperation with SCALA Mixtape, East Cyprus Music Meetings will focus on professional development, knowledge exchange and networking within Cyprus’ music sector.
The programme will feature workshops and panel discussions with local and international experts, alongside jam sessions and other activities bringing together musicians, music professionals and audiences.
Through these activities, the project aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas, create new professional connections and encourage discussion on issues relevant to the island’s music ecosystem.
Creating opportunities for dialogue and shared artistic experiences
Together, the two projects highlight the role of artistic practice in creating opportunities for connection, exchange and shared experiences between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.
Over the coming months, Third Space and East Cyprus Music Meetings will bring artists, cultural practitioners and audiences together through a diverse programme of creative activities, contributing to the development of new ideas, partnerships and opportunities for artistic collaboration across the island.
The initiative forms part of the Technical Committee on Culture’s ongoing efforts to support cultural cooperation and create spaces for meaningful engagement through the arts.
