New bar and restaurant set for Newland Avenue debut

A new bar and restaurant is set to open on Newland Avenue next month.

New Lounge will occupy former Heron building next to Scribes on the busy high street after La Strada closed down during lockdown.

The Italian restaurant had not even been open for twelve months having replaced Lodge Bar & Grill in the building last year.

However, new owners Nik and Simon are confident of making a success of their new venture.

Nik said: “The plan is to open from 9am for coffee and cakes until about 12pm and then the whole food menu kicks in until 9pm.

“After 9pm we’ll stop serving food and if the government allows we want to be able to put on some live music, maybe a piano or a singer.”

A notice in the window is advertising for new bar staff and waiters as work continues on the interior of the bar.

Meanwhile, they continue to prepare their new menu which Simon said will feature Mediterranean cuisine.

“We’re going to do great food,” he said.

“It’ll be Mediterranean, we’ll do French, Italian and Greek but we’ll also have a specials board which will change every couple of days.”

They plan to have the new bar and restaurant open before the end of August.
