Montclair Veterinary Hospital customers are facing the reality of finding a new clinic for their pets. The longtime Montclair Village business (sold to Thrive Pet Healthcare in 2018) closed without warning April 22, indicating the decision to lay off 19 staff members “was not made lightly.”

Greek fest: The Oakland Greek Festival is coming back after a two-year pandemic hiatus. Festival chair Yanni Limnios says the parishioners at Ascension Cathedral are really excited about this 50th year celebration May 20-22.
“We do a lot of prefestival cooking, and people are happily signing up to volunteer,” Limnios says.
He says they’re sticking to the basics of what they know people love and bringing back everything full-steam. That means Greek music, dancing, gyros, spit-roasted lamb and all those wonderful desserts.
One thing that will be different this year is the schedule. The Oakland Greek Festival won’t open until 4 p.m. Friday because the school groups that used to come on Fridays haven’t started field trips yet. Want more information on the festival? See oaklandgreekfestival.com online.
Around town: The bricks for the Montclair Village Plaza are being delivered next week. More than 1,000 sponsors bought inscribed bricks to raise about $200,000 for the new Antioch Court plaza. The redesigned streetscape is slated to open June 18 in conjunction with Montclair’s Beer, Wine and Music festival. It’s exciting to think that this seedling of an idea, something I first wrote about some 20 years ago, is almost a reality. The Montclair Plaza will do a lot to create community and energize Montclair Village.
New studio: Montclair is the newest location for Orangetheory Fitness, a boutique studio that uses coaches to motivate you as you work out. The company started in Florida and has more than 1,000 studios nationwide, including the one about to open next to Starbucks in the Village.
