The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 4.5 quake in Greece near Larissa, Lárisa, Thessaly, only 6 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Saturday 3 April 2021 at 11:05 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Synoikismos Prosfygon (pop. 120) located 2 km from the epicenter, Giannouli (pop. 7,900) 9 km away, Larissa (pop. 144,700) 10 km away, Týrnavos (pop. 10,800) 11 km away, and Ampelona (pop. 6,000) 13 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Karditsa (pop. 32,800) located 45 km from the epicenter, Trikala (pop. 61,700) 47 km away, Nea Ionia (pop. 32,700) 61 km away, and Volos (pop. 86,000) 63 km away.
