Kia Seltos is coming to India this month and here is what its name suggests


Kia Motors has named its upcoming compact SUV as ‘Seltos’. The name takes inspiration from Greek mythology and Hercules’ son ‘Celtus’. According to the company, the letter ‘S’ in Seltos signifies speed, sportiness and strength.

In William Shakespeare’s famous tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet’, Juliet once asked Romeo: “What’s in a name?” Come 2019, one can argue there is a lot in it and particularly with regard to the christening of new vehicles.

Kia Motors today named its upcoming compact SUV as ‘Seltos’. The name takes inspiration from Greek mythology and Hercules’ son ‘Celtus’. According to the company, the letter ‘S’ in Seltos signifies speed, sportiness and strength.

While Kia Seltos will break cover in India on June 20, its launch will take place later this year. It will get all the new-age features like LED headlamps and fog lamps, LED tail lamps, dual exhaust pipes, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system, cruise control, push-button start/stop, EPS (Electronic Power Steering) and sound mood lighting technology.

Expectations are that Kia Seltos will be priced between Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the likes of the upcoming MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur.

MG (Morris Garages) Motor India will launch Hector later during this month. MG Hector’s name is inspired by the Trojan warrior hero — Prince Hector of Troy. Unveiled in India on May 15, the bookings for upcoming premium SUV have already commenced.

Amid much attention, Hyundai Motor India launched Venue on May 21. Hyundai Venue’s name refers to a ‘place’ where people want to be seen and inside the vehicle with regard to the new compact SUV.

Earlier this year, Tata Motors had named the 45X Concept as ‘Altroz’ after a seabird known as Albatross. Tata Altroz was unveiled at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show and will be launched in India in mid-2019.
