Home to the likes of Pasta Loco, Bravas and Rock Salt, Cotham Hill is one of the best places in Bristol for eating out, attracting people from all over the city.
And fans of Greek cuisine will now be flocking to the foodie hotspot following the launch of Elia.
Replacing Convivio, the restaurant opened in early December and initially only served typical café grub, but owners Demetri Souroullas and Christos Wells have just launched a traditional Greek menu which sounds seriously top notch.
Using tried-and-tested recipes from Demetri’s Cypriot mum, the menu includes a selection of meze dishes starting from £4.80 as well as mains such as kleftiko, souvlaki and moussaka.
Demetri said the the new menu, inspired by his mum’s home cooking, has gone down a storm so far.
“I’ve been in catering since I was 10 and have always wanted to open a place of my own,” said the 52-year-old, who before launching Elia helped his sister run the popular Avenue Cafe in Emersons Green.
“And I decided that at my age it’s a case of now or never. When me and Christo heard that the owners of Convivio were planning to move on we had a look around the site and loved it.
“It’s great to be in an area surrounded by some truly excellent restaurants.
“To start with we only served full English breakfast, paninis and things like that while we found our feet, but we’ve just launched our Greek menu and it’s going down really well.
“The stuffed peppers and souvlaki in particular have proved very popular.”

Elia’s brunch menu will continue to be served alongside the Greek dishes, added Demetri, who said he’s ‘worked in every role imaginable’ in the hospitality industry.
Earlier this month saw the closure of Greek restaurant Athena in Westbury-on-Trym, less than three miles away from Cotham Hill.
Demetri is hopeful that fans of the former High Street site who were saddened by its closure will be able to get their Greek food fix from Elia.
Elia is located at 50 Cotham Hill, Cotham, Bristol, BS6 6JX. For more information, visit its website.
