Greek rapper N.T.M., also known as Negros tou Moria, will join the Athens Municipality Symphony Orchestra for N.T.M. and the 40 Composers, a two-night concert at the Olympia Municipal Music Theater Maria Callas on October 29 and 30. Both performances, scheduled for 8:30 p.m., are sold out.
The concert brings together the rapper, whose music explores the intersections of Greek language and contemporary urban identity, and a symphony orchestra in an unconventional musical collaboration that challenges the boundaries between genres.
Born Kevin Zans Ansong in Athens to Ghanaian parents and raised in the city’s Kypseli neighborhood, N.T.M. has developed a distinctive voice in contemporary Greek rap. His music reflects the cultural complexity of modern Athens, drawing on his experiences and the interplay between different musical traditions.
In recent years, he has expanded his musical approach through what he calls trambetiko, a style that blends rap and trap with the rhythms and instruments of rebetiko, a Greek urban musical tradition, and other elements of Greek folk music.
The Olympia performance will bring this hybrid sound into dialogue with the orchestral arrangements of Achilleas Wastor, under the musical direction of Stathis Soullis. The collaboration offers a new setting for N.T.M.’s music, pairing contemporary urban sounds with the scale and textures of a symphony orchestra.
The concert’s playful title, N.T.M. and the 40 Composers, signals an approach that embraces humor while questioning the distinctions between musical genres. Rather than treating rap and classical music as separate worlds, the performance places them in a shared musical setting.
Organized around the meeting of two different musical traditions, the concert reflects N.T.M.’s ongoing exploration of a sound rooted in contemporary Athens while drawing on Greece’s broader musical heritage.
